Gifts That Give Gift Guide
Story Team •This year, give and give back. The following are holiday gift ideas from some of our favorite organizations around the globe. In addition to making a great gift, everything on the list supports a great cause. Click through our top picks below for a few ways to give presents that have an impact!
Support education and human rights with a gift from Restore International, the human rights group that Hoboken Grace partnered with for a trip to Uganda in September. Restore’s holiday catalogue offers Guatemalan coffee, a camping mug and wall art that highlights quotes from “Love Does.” Bob Goff’s book itself makes a great gift. All items support Restore’s work in India, Somalia, Nepal, Iraq and Uganda.
31 Bits
Speaking of Uganda, you may have noticed paper-bead necklaces popping up all over Hoboken lately. The team that went to Uganda brought back a few (make that a few dozen) bracelets and necklaces after visiting 31 Bits, a group that empowers local women by teaching the basics of jewelry-making and entrepreneurship. The organization also provides employees with counseling, financial training and a place to grow in their relationship with God. (The name 31 Bits is a reference to Proverbs 31 and the scraps of recycled paper that are molded into beads!) You can find their products here.
The Hoboken Historical Museum
As we say at Hoboken Grace, we don’t just live here, we love here. Celebrate and support our city’s history with a purchase from the Hoboken Historical Museum. They have a fantastic collection of books and wall art, along with mugs and other great stocking stuffers.
LiNK
Liberty in North Korea offers an extensive holiday collection of T-shirts, hoodies and hats, in addition to coffee, canvas bags, candles and other items. All proceeds support LiNK’s work to resettle North Korean refugees. LiNK is one of Hoboken Grace’s global partners for 2016, and a mission trip to South Korea is scheduled for the spring.
charity: water
Explore the world while changing it. The collection from charity: water offers shirts, water bottles, bikes and much more. And for the photographer in your life, what about this cool camera strap, a reminder to “Tell stories.” Proceeds support the nonprofit’s efforts to bring clean and safe water to developing nations across the world.
Other great causes you can support through your holiday shopping:
Rehema Home
Do you have shopping to do at Barnes & Noble this month? From Friday, Dec. 11, to Wednesday, Dec. 16, Barnes & Noble is hosting a book fair fundraiser for the Rehema Home orphanage in Kenya, which Hoboken Grace will visit in August. Use voucher number 11733524 when shopping online at bn.com/bookfairs, and 10% of your purchase will go toward Rehema Home.
The Hoboken Shelter, True Mentors and other organizations near and far
If you’re purchasing anything on Amazon, most nonprofits, including the Hoboken Shelter, True Mentors and HOPES, have an Amazon Smile account. Choose one at smile.amazon.com, and Amazon will return .05% of what you spend to that organization.
