This past Sunday, all the attention was on our little ones and their wonderful accomplishments. On a very exciting day, Grace Kids had their annual graduation, and all the smiles of the kids in their graduation caps were very heartwarming. This is a special event where we celebrate all the things that the kids have learned and accomplished in the past year. Our preschool kids make the move to Clubhouse and all of our Clubhouse kids move into their new classes based on the grade they’ll be in in the fall. This includes our 5th graders who are moving to VIBE! The children were thrilled to decorate their caps and then put on and toss them up! Parents and kids were equally proud!

This Sunday we also celebrated over 20 child dedications, and we were so happy to see these families make the commitment to raise their little ones under God’s lead! As church members, we aren’t just bystanders to this act that the parents are presenting to us and God. We also have an important job in all of this. Which is to commit to lifting these babies up in the church environment whenever possible as they are growing up and navigating their own church journey even years from now. This is the very first step in the faith journey of these young ones. It is the parent’s job to raise their kids to the best of their abilities, but when it comes to faith, it can be a rocky, unpredictable road that will require all the help they can get from their church family.

It was such a special day for everyone in attendance! Pastor Chris outlined the essential commitments we must make, as parents and as a church, to ensure we are providing the ideal environment for our children to grow up in.

Everything we do here at Hoboken Grace revolves around one mission — helping people find their way back to God. It takes a lot of people with all sorts of skills, talents, and passions to make that possible. 

This Sunday, we’re hosting [Team Link](https://hobokengrace.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/1302432) at 301 Garden at 3pm! Many people are excited about serving but many times they don’t know exactly which team is a fit for them. Team Link has proven to be the best opportunity for people to learn more about our teams and how to make an impact! Our Story Team spoke to Mark to learn more about his experience at Team Link, and how it helped him find the right team to serve on.

**Story Team:** How was your first experience with Team Link? 

**Mark:** The first time I went, I thought it was awesome because every table set up had a leader ready to talk to me. In some of my past experiences at other places, usually, it was only one leader trying to fill spots for every team. At Team Link, there were leaders and team members that were ready to talk about their team and how they serve, and that made it relevant for me — it was really easy to connect. I spent a lot of time trying to learn about each area, and so I had to go to Team Link twice! 

**Story Team:** Did you have any doubts about joining a team?

**Mark:** No, I didn’t doubt it, but I just really took the time to search for the best for me. And I tell people today that they can go on any team and they’ll have a good experience as they serve. It’s so beneficial to connect with the people on the teams, and God fills you up so much when you’re serving. So even if it’s a department that you’re not used to, you’ll enjoy the process of serving. 

**Story Team:** What were the next steps when you decided to join a team?

**Mark:** I joined the First Impressions Team and after that, I was able to check it out and shadow a leader on a Sunday morning to see what it’s like. So that was what I did and I was able to see how everything worked. After I knew it was something I wanted to do, I went to the team orientation which was great when it came to learning all the values of the team, and the guidelines for serving in the best way possible. The orientation made me feel very comfortable and got me prepared for my role on the team. 

**Story Team:** What has been the most exciting part about joining/leading a team?

**Mark:** Going into a team, you can expect certain things of how it’s going to go, but it’s incredible how many moments along the way I got to see other team members grow in their spiritual journey and go above and beyond when serving. I’ve seen members of our team take important steps like baptism, others are joining dinner groups and growing in their faith. It’s incredible to see others grow and that really impacts me as well. Also, it’s amazing to see so many new faces come in the door on Sundays! Every Sunday there is always somebody new coming in and we have the opportunity to embrace and love all these people coming in. 

**Story Team: What would you tell people about joining a team at Hoboken Grace?** 

**Mark:** A lot of people may think that it’s a draining experience to serve, but it’s not like that at all. It’s more than just ‘helping out,’ it’s about serving God and it’s the opposite of draining. God fills you up!

The Power Of Serving On A Team


So much of what we do here at Hoboken Grace revolves around the countless people who serve on our teams, and those who lead these teams and groups. Each leader is a key component of the mission as we help people find their way back to God.

This past weekend we honored those who commit their time and gifts to lead well with our annual Leadership Weekend. It was amazing to see so many new faces that have made recent commitments to serve on a team here a Hoboken Grace. Being able to come together and celebrate, made for a great opportunity for new and old leaders to connect with each other.

After the morning and afternoon sessions on Saturday, leaders left extremely encouraged with all that they heard about the processes of leading, failing, learning, and working through difficult situations.

“It’s always nice to be humbled and remember the failures you go through… We learn so much from the things that work and don’t work,” said Christian, one of the leaders that attended the sessions.

Leaders were also able to talk to each other, share ideas, and pray together — all while having fun with the several activities that were prepared for them.

Another leader said: “It was very important to hear how we, as leaders, exemplify Christ through our integrity and how that helps us lead!”

The day ended with a very yummy BBQ on the roof, where our leaders were able to chat even more, eat, and play some games! It was so special to have everyone together as we prepare for all the big plans that are ahead!

Leadership Weekend wrapped up with a fun day at Six Flags for our leaders. There, they enjoyed a beautiful sunny day full of rides, fun, and food. Once again, it was a great opportunity to connect and bond as a team.

Equipping our leaders to lead well is one of the most important things here and we are so grateful for all of them!

This Memorial Day was a wonderful reminder of the bravery of those who served our country. Additionally, it was an opportunity for friends and family to come together, and cherish the freedom that these courageous men and women have given us.

Over 150 people from around the neighborhood gathered at the Maxwell Place Pier to enjoy a day together. Those orange Hoboken Grace flags flying at the pier made it super easy to spot where the picnic was, and it was indeed a very nice time. The New York City skyline also made for the perfect view and backdrop for all the photos!

As the official start of summer, it was quite the treat to see the sun out with some delightful weather! There were plenty of games for kids and adults, paired with some amazing snacks! Many laid out picnic blankets, while others took the time to walk around and connect. It was a great opportunity to meet new people, have fun with family and friends, and just spend a day outside. Can’t wait for next year, and stay on the lookout for more events!

Memorial Day Picnic at Hoboken Grace!

Every person who takes the step of baptism has their reasons and motivations, but one thing is for sure: God works in amazing ways for this to happen.

It is always a very special moment when someone decides to take this very important step here and experiencing these moments of celebration as a community makes it all the more exciting.

This past Sunday, Veronica and her son Julian took the step of baptism and commit to following God. Our Story Team spoke to Veronica to learn more about all that went into that decision and her experience.

**Story Team: What was the feeling like when you got baptized?**

**Veronica:** It was overwhelming because I had so many feelings, but mostly peace and joy. I was just so happy that I was able to take that step and do it alongside my son. I felt so excited and just grateful for my HG family that are so instrumental in my journey with God.

**Story Team:** **Who was there with you?**

**Veronica:** My son Julian, and my Hoboken Grace family: Diana, Ana, Mark, Rachel, Sarah, Lorraine.

**Story Team: For another Hoboken Grace Community member who may be thinking about taking this step, what would you say to them?**

**Veronica:** I’ll just say: Do it! Don’t overthink as I did, I felt I was ready a while ago, but I didn’t think I had to do it. I realized that it’s a beautiful step in your faith journey, it’s a beautiful representation of who you are once you come out of the water, who your God is, and how amazing it feels to celebrate that in front of everyone.

**Story Team:** **What made you take the step of baptism?**

**Veronica:** I just felt in my heart that I didn’t need to keep pushing it back. I’ve been ready, and my relationship with God has grown stronger so I felt that I wanted to take this step. Also, it was my birthday last week and I wanted to give myself a gift: freedom. Freedom to be defined by Him, freedom to live a life that allows me to constantly seek Him, and freedom to love others well!

Baptism: A Special Gift Of Freedom


Another Mother’s Day is in the books at Hoboken Grace! Considering all that our mothers do for us, it is only right that we celebrate them in a big way on Mother’s Day. They should be honored every day, but this past Sunday was extra special and made specifically to put a smile on the faces of all the mothers who joined us.

For many, it was the first Mother’s Day that they were able to spend with their mothers after a few years apart. Others picked out this special day to spend extra quality time with their moms.

The decorations put up in the space at 301 Garden were beautiful and made for a great photo opportunity with all the moms in the building and their families. As a bonus, the day outside was as beautiful as can be, setting up the perfect light for all the pictures!

All the mothers were treated to a nice surprise, completing a great morning: they helped themselves to some specialty coffee, along with some delicious breakfast bites in a charcuterie cup. They enjoyed a tasty breakfast during the service — and the macaroons were a huge hit!

Seeing families come together on Mother’s Day was a wonderful reminder of how important community and togetherness are. Making our mothers happy even through small gestures can make a huge impact, and Sunday morning was a great example of that.


Mother’s Day At Hoboken Grace

Earlier this week a team of leaders from Hoboken Grace traveled to Alpharetta, GA to participate in an annual conference hosted by North Point Community Church for partners. 

The conference kicked off with a connection event on Sunday night, where leaders from churches all over the world came together at a local Top Golf. It was a great opportunity to meet new people, connect about different areas of ministry and of course, eat and play some golf.

During the two days of the conference, there was a lot to be excited about! Our leaders kicked off their days with worship, a main session and after that, every person had the opportunity to participate in different breakouts, panel discussions and Q&A sessions. 

The different sessions ensured that each leader found something helpful to take back to their teams and provided different tools to help them in their ministry. The setup of the conference also allowed many opportunities for our leaders to connect with other people from all around the world, and share their knowledge and ideas.

It was a special weekend that helped equip, inspire and refuel all of those who participated.

Kate was trying to get a sense of where she belonged. She’d spent years wrestling with the picture of God she’d developed as a child, an image that didn’t line up with her adult beliefs. The God she’d learned about growing up valued good behavior and favored those who followed a set of rules. In her heart, though, Kate sensed that God was full of grace and forgiveness.

She was trying out different churches when she visited Hoboken Grace last spring.

“I belonged to another church growing up and I missed being able to practice faith,” Kate said.

There was another reason Kate had started going to church again, too. In addition to looking for answers about who God was, Kate was trying to figure out more about who she was. It was something that had come up as she began thinking about dating again.

“I didn’t know how to date, or who I was as a single person, or any of that stuff, and I was kind of going to church because I needed to find myself first before I could put myself out there again,” she said.

So when she walked into Hoboken Grace for the first time, it seemed like too much of a coincidence that Pastor Chris was in the middle of a series about dating and relationships.

“The first one I walked into, he was talking about sex,” Kate said. “I was like, oh, this doesn’t happen in church, I’ve never heard this before. But it was the exact thing that I needed to hear.”

She took it as a sign that church could be different from what’d she’d known growing up.

“They were saying all the things that I needed to hear, in the right context, in the right tone, and in a way that I understand,” she said. “It \[church\] felt like it’s not about rules, and about when to stand up and sit down, or memorizing a certain prayer, it’s about being there.”

Soon after she started attending regularly, Kate got an email about Starting Point, a class that promised “answers to questions” about faith. It sounded like a good way to meet people at Hoboken Grace, she thought.

The class, which meets weekly for eight sessions, is meant to facilitate a conversation about different aspects of faith. The program is designed by Pastor Andy Stanley and incorporates a book, videos and discussion questions. It’s meant to be a safe environment where people can ask any questions, regardless of where they are on their faith journey.

As the class got underway, Kate turned to one of the first pages in the book. A fill-in-the-blank question that asked what she wanted to get out of the class. Kate instantly thought back to the messages about faith she’d learned as a child.

“My faith was surrounded by religion, and that religion had a conditional membership,” she wrote. “And I believe that love and faith is unconditional, and that’s what I’m hoping to find here.”

She found what she was looking for in Chapter 3, in a section that delves into the idea of earning God’s approval through the right choices and actions.

“Grace is just something we’ve been given,” Kate says the book explained “And it’s unconditional in that it’s not something that we have to earn; it’s something that’s been extended to us. And I should always strive to be the best person that I can be, but if I make a mistake, I’m not a sinner in the eyes of an angry God who’s going to punish me.”

It was a stark contrast to what Kate had learned as a child, and a message that kept appearing over and over again throughout the book.

And finally, she thought, she’d found a place in faith where her heart could belong.

Starting Point is a casual, 8-week get-together of individuals learning about their story and how it fits into God’s. It’s for those who are brand new to faith, returning to it, or just have questions and doubts.

The Hoboken Grace Easter Egg Hunt is always one of the most anticipated events in New Jersey! Registrations were filled out as soon as they opened and in the days leading up to Saturday, one thing was for certain: we wanted this to be the best day ever for the children and their families.

Pastor Chris kicked off the egg hunt with a few words of encouragement and prayers. Everyone was ready to make this a day to remember, and with bunny ears on and smiling faces, the hay was laid out, the eggs were filled with treats and everything was prepared with a lot of care for the children and their families.

Pastor Chris was extremely excited to see everyone there: “Easter is absolutely our biggest celebration of the year and the Egg Hunt is all about bringing families in Hoboken together to enjoy this special time of year!”

Thousands of children flooded into Mama Johnson field throughout the day, bubbling with excitement and with their baskets ready. Before making their way to the hunt area, the children enjoyed plenty of games, fun arts and crafts and even a bouncy castle!

The children waited anxiously for the hunt to kick off, each of them with one key goal in mind: finding and collecting as many colorful eggs as possible! When given the go-ahead, the children rushed through the hay, each going in different directions looking for those special eggs and the prizes inside of them – and the fun didn’t end there!

Five different Easter bunnies were eagerly waiting at the lawn and the shine in the eyes of the children was clearly visible when approached by the bunnies. Those beaming smiles from families and children in the photos tell the whole story of how special these moments were to them!

With baskets full of eggs, candy and with huge smiles on their faces,families headed home after a long day of fun. 

The Easter Egg Hunt drew in over 4,000 participants, with 35,000 eggs being collected throughout the day. It was a beautiful day, and despite a few stretches of clouds and rain – it didn’t stop everyone from having a great time! It was a day that was all about loving our community and Pastor Chris was excited at just how much this means as we look ahead, moving into our permanent space: “We love bringing events like this to our community and now that we’re moving into a permanent space we can’t wait to welcome and serve even more people moving forward!”

Easter Egg Hunt 2022 Recap

This February, several of us traveled to Mexico on a missions trip with our partner organization Casa Hogar Alegre.

Casa Hogar Alegre provides a refuge for orphaned and abandoned children. By partnering with this organization and their mission, we can provide love and care for the children of Chiapas who have already been through so much in their young lives.

These children are fed, clothed and educated and through these acts they are given an opportunity to discover the hope that is found in Jesus. The goal of the mission in Mexico is to care for the physical well-being of these children and encourage their spiritual growth.

The team arrived in Mexico filled with excitement to get involved and to work with the children. Packed in their suitcases were toys, clothes and plenty of soccer balls for the children to play with. The first day of the trip was largely spent in the classroom with the children, interacting with all of them and helping them get through their work.

In the following days, some team members got to work on some projects building projects that involved painting, restoring and organizing on-site locations. Other team members continued their work with the children, running VBS classes, playing soccer, teaching them new sports and making different crafts with them. Through all of these activities, the children and families of Chiapas were able to see and experience the love of Jesus up close.

In our next trip, we will partner with Potter’s House, who tirelessly give back to those who live in some of the most impoverished areas of Guatemala.

Impacting Lives Through Missions!

**A Few Last Words**

As we bring “Restoring Love” to a close I want to share a few last words about how the pillars and the example of Christ should impact specifically how we date. If our defining characteristic is love and dating is pursuing the one you’ll love for the rest of your life, we should value dating well.

Now, if you haven’t watched the last series this may be a little confusing, so I highly encourage you to go back and [revisit those conversations](https://hobokengrace.com/series/restoring-love/). We left off discussing how God wants to have a full relationship with us, actually a relationship that’s overflowing. We talked about how we often will compromise one of the four pillars (or jars) to pour into something that doesn’t hold water; sexuality, power, success, being envied. God calls us, however, to something better, to live a full life experiencing a full relationship with Him. When that happens it changes almost every aspect of dating.

I want to take a second to talk through some of those implications. This isn’t exhaustive, but hopefully it’s helpful. I’ll start from the most obvious and move toward the more subtle.

**Understanding the Pillars changes what we look for.**

This is the most obvious. Rather than pursuing the person who’s the most successful or most attractive, we prioritize character. We pursue someone who honors their commitments and is committed to people not just projects. We value spiritual chemistry and intellectual chemistry not just physical and emotional chemistry, and we pursue people who are willing to be known and live in real community with others. I won’t spend more time on this as we talked about it at length.

**The Pillars change what we develop in ourselves.**

All of us are working to attract others. We all do it. We all do it in different ways. Some of you may say, “No, I’m not interested in being attractive!” You may not be interested in looking good, but you are interested in being attractive. You want people to like you. Maybe you use humor. Maybe you want to be liked by people who don’t like people, so you work to attract them and show how anti-people you are. Everyone does it. The question is what do you want to be your defining feature. What makes you attractive? When you understand the example of Jesus it changes what you want to develop in yourself to attract others.

**But no one is attracted to the pillars.**

Not true. People who are working to develop character, commitment, holistic love, and intimacy will be attracted to people who have them. You will attract the people who care about the same things. This is a fairly consistent principle in life. If you go for power, you will attract people who care about power. Good luck with that. If you go for sexuality, you will attract people who care most about sexuality. It’s not difficult to understand. If you work to build the pillars in your life you will attract people who care about loving the way God loves.

Are there many who are actually attracted to that? There are more than you think, and the whole reason we did this series is to help us all move in that direction. Are you one of them?

**Where do I find them?**

Church. The best place to find someone who values the example of Christ is church. The best way to find someone who wants to love that way is to get busy (maybe not the right wording) loving that way as part of Jesus’ family. Ana and I connected because we were engaging ministry together not because we were looking for someone else. Begin serving and start paying attention to those who are as passionate about serving as you are. It is absolutely the best way to develop the pillars in your life and to see them demonstrated in someone else’s life.

**I can’t date someone I go to church with.**

If that’s true, you’re dating the wrong way. I used to tell staff members who began to date, “I want you to know, if this goes wrong and only one of you can attend this church, it won’t be you.” I wanted them to handle themselves in a way that would allow the relationship to end without it being impossible to be in the same room together. The pillars actually make this possible for several reasons.

1. You value character. This means you don’t date to take from one another but to make one another better. It doesn’t mean it won’t hurt, but it’s not devastating. I often hear people say, “that was a complete waste of my life” as they exit a relationship. Why? Did you not help each other become better? Unfortunately, we often don’t, but when you understand and value the pillar of character it changes what you want for them and what you’re working to show them.

1. You keep intimacy and commitment linked. Usually when the breakup results in no longer being able to see one another again it’s because they broke this principle. They allowed themselves to become physically intimate when they weren’t committed in marriage. I know “Friends” taught you that you can sleep with all your friends and still be friends, but they couldn’t have lied more if they tried. Don’t test it, the principle always holds up. Once you allow physical intimacy without commitment (real commitment, marriage, not I REALLY like you) you make the future extremely difficult if the relationship doesn’t last.

1. You value spiritual chemistry. You care about how they are growing! I can’t tell you how many times people will start to date or get married and pull back in their involvement. It shocks me. Why aren’t you caring about your spiritual chemistry? Why aren’t you helping them to engage more. Why would you be hindering their growth? Don’t you understand what feeds their ability to love you? IT’S NOT MORE TIME WITH YOU! It’s a better relationship with Him.

1. You’re known by those around you. You’re honest with people in your life about how you’re treating the one you’re in a relationship with. They keep you honest about whether you’re giving or taking. They help you stay true to the first three points.

I could probably go on for quite some time on this one, but hopefully you get the point. If you love like Jesus, you don’t have to be afraid of dating someone you go to church with.

**The Pillars give you the confidence to ask them out.**

Remember, the heart of our whole conversation was not how we should love, but how we ARE loved. Jesus is the source of “living water”. He wants you to be full. He wants you to be loved. When you experience that it changes how you view rejection. We aren’t shaped by whether they say yes or no. We’re full. We can seek others not because we need love, but because we want to love.

Some of you need to step up, guys, and ask her out. You see the love of Jesus developing in her but you’re missing your opportunity because you’re afraid of being rejected. Maybe she will say no, it doesn’t change how you’re loved or how valuable you are to the one who loves you most. Embrace the love Jesus has poured into your life and ask her out!

**The Pillars exist in all relationships.**

You don’t need to get married to experience what we’ve talked through. I’ve said it before. You shouldn’t live alone. You need to be developing this in all relationships in your life. There is no magic in a romantic relationship that will transform who you are or how you engage those around you. Whatever you struggle with before marriage, you’ll struggle with after marriage. Don’t wait to start practicing loving this way.

1. Set out to further develop your character. You know your weaknesses. Go back to our conversation on Jan. 2nd, 2022 and begin developing a life plan.

1. Commit to people. Commit to a dinner group. Invite someone to be an accountability partner and commit to consistent time together. Start a family dinner for your friends and have dinner together once a week or every other week. Practice commitment.

1. Engage with all of who you are. Work at ensuring people know every aspect of who you are not just one aspect. Share your faith. Work to serve others physically.

1. Be known. You don’t need to be completely known by everyone, but you need to be known by someone. Work to develop two relationships with people you are completely open and honest with. Don’t hide.

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13:35

We know what it looks like. We get to experience it with Him, and we get to share it with the world around us.

Restoring Love: A Few Last Words

It’s not easy to get out of bed on the day that we lose an hour to daylight savings time, but our annual Pajama Jam celebration had the kids from Grace Kids dragging their parents out of the house and over to 301 Garden Street on March 13th! 

For weeks we had been telling parents and families about something special planned for that Sunday and the day had finally arrived! It was cuteness overload on the 4th floor as little ones as young as 10 weeks old all the way up to 5th grade were arriving in their best (and comfiest) attire.

Everywhere you looked there were fuzzy slippers, unicorn rodes, and superhero onesies. Our teachers even got to wear fun t-shirts stating “These are my PJs!” 

It was an exciting opportunity to have fun and build relationships outside of a typical Sunday. There were fun games and sleepover-themed activities, and some groups even got to wrap their small group leaders in toilet paper! 

Needless to say, everyone had a blast and the lost hour of sleep was quickly forgotten on this special day! We never thought we’d say it, but we can’t wait for daylight savings time to come again so we can enjoy another Pajama Jam!

Improving Date Night

It is always a joy when someone chooses to be baptized with us. Witnessing someone make this public commitment to Him is a powerful moment. Smiles are abundant and powerful energy fills the room every time!

We spoke with Lizhi to learn more about her experience and her motivations to take this exciting step.

**Story Team: What led you to take the step of baptism?**

**Lizhi:** I have been listening to / reading the scriptures since the onset of the pandemic. The words of God gave me power and carried me through a difficult time. Finally, last month as I sat in my living room, I felt this urge coming from within telling me to take the step. I believe it’s the calling from the holy spirit – so I reached out to Hoboken Grace (to who I got introduced by my friend Rachel who has been going here for a long time I believe), and the rest is the story.

**Story Team: What was the feeling like as you were baptized?**

**Lizhi:** Surreal, as I was surrounded by my friends and the only one during that time who got baptized. I felt special in a good way, watching myself on the screen for the first time. As I got lifted up from the water, I felt both calm and excited at the same time. I am very grateful for everyone present at that moment.

**Story Team: Who was up there with you?**

**Lizhi:** My friends and the pastor.

**Story Team: For another Hoboken Grace community member who may be thinking about taking this step, what would you say to them?**

**Lizhi:** You don’t need to rush but also don’t wait too long. Take a leap of faith when you are somewhat ready.

**Story Team: How has baptism changed how you think about the future?**

**Lizhi:** Haha, it’s only been a week so it’s hard to say. But I’ve been practicing morning prayers and reading the scriptures daily to get started with the good habit. I want to get more involved with volunteer work in the future (I have reached out to an organization and am waiting for the next step). Also, I look forward to more events from Hoboken Grace in the future!

A Powerful Moment: Baptism

After experiencing Sundays and dinner group, Ken felt an urge to give back by joining a team at Hoboken Grace. He made the commitment without knowing what it would mean for his personal growth or how much it would impact others, but the journey is one that he’s humbled by now.

We sat down with Ken to hear more. Check it out!

**Story Team: Can you describe your role on Sundays?**

Ken: I am the video team lead for the production team, which means that my team and I are responsible for the live video content you see on the big screens as well as the online live streams. You’ll find me most Sundays in the booth, behind the multi-screens, helping coordinate our camera efforts.

**Story Team: Why did you choose that team as the best way to serve for you?**

Ken: I was invited to check out the production team by a fellow dinner group member who knew I was interested in volunteering. I started shadowing the team about two and a half years ago, and I’ve come to love being part of the team since.

**Story Team: How has the role impacted your sense of community?**

Ken: The majority of my Christian life previously had been spent mostly receiving from the church, but never really contributing back in a meaningful way. Once I began serving, the irony I’ve found is that the more I gave to church and God, the more I received back!

There’s a very strong sense of community amongst the volunteers – not just within the production team but across every team. It is incredibly exciting and motivating to be part of this effort together.

**Story Team: Have you been able to impact others?**

Ken: The direct impact I have on others from behind the booth is a little hidden, but as a team we’re very confident in what we bring to the overall service experience. Especially during the past year and a half when digital became so important. We love having the privilege of being able to deliver the Sunday service experience to online viewers in Hoboken, Hudson County, and beyond!

**Story Team: What would you say to someone who is thinking about serving or volunteering at Hoboken Grace?**

Ken: There’s a special joy that comes from serving and contributing to the mission. Come try it yourself and find out!

Dinner groups are at the core of what we do to build community! Our Story Team sat down with Karl to learn more about his experience with a men’s dinner group.

It’s a fitting topic as we continue to focus on what leads to successful relationships during our Sunday conversations this February.

**Story Team: What do you love about being a part of the dinner group?**

Karl: I love that it’s a supportive group of men who consistently show up for each other. From my first time attending, I felt that no one was there out of mere obligation. It’s a group that is relatable, funny, and whose collective heart is to see every brother succeed and live well in the power of Jesus.

**Story Team: What is the story about how you joined a dinner group?**

Karl: Pastor Anthony told me about dinner groups and gave me the name of a dinner group leader to reach out to. I figured I would eventually join a group, but had no immediate plans. Then I went to [Amplify](https://hobokengrace.com/amplify/), and met my now good friend, Eric. That conversation inspired me to join a dinner group right away.

Almost immediately I knew I had joined a great group and I never felt like a stranger.

**Story Team: Was there any self doubts that you had to overcome?**

I didn’t have to overcome any doubts except a personal inclination I have towards solitude. But I can easily say that the community and camaraderie the dinner group adds to my life is invaluable!

**Story Team: Tell us about the relationships you’ve formed along the way?**

The entire group is low-key now a part of my circle. A special shout out to my dinner group leader CJ (the best Hoboken Grace has!). He fosters an environment where relationships feel easy and natural.

**Story Team: What excites you about the future of the dinner group/where your dinner group is headed?**

I think I’m most excited about what is it in the moment. It already holds a special place in my heart and has been core to my spiritual development the last few months.

We are always humbled when someone decides to take the step of baptism with us. It’s an amazing celebration to see someone take this public step forward in their commitment to Him, and it’s always a powerful feeling in the room. You will see a champagne bottle pop!

Each person has their own reasons for taking this step, so we connected with Natalia to hear more about her decision and experience.

**Story Team: What was the feeling like when you got baptized?**

**Natalia:** The second I got on the stage I got this incredible sense of calm and peace and gratitude. On stage, I felt the love and support of the entire church community, but when I closed my eyes to accept the baptism, I felt as though the entire world had stopped and I was sitting in the embrace of God. I was so happy to say “Yes” to God. I was presenting myself to God as His child. and I felt loved and supported by Him and by all my family and friends and the church community as witnesses.

**Story Team:** **Who was there with you?**

**Natalia:** I was joined on stage by my husband, my sister, and the majority of our dinner group, as well as some close friends from church. I felt they were also receiving the blessings of the holy spirit as they have seen a tremendous transformation that God has created in my life and around us.

**Story Team: For another Hoboken Grace Community member who may be thinking about taking this step, what would you say to them?**

**Natalia:** Don’t hesitate, do not show resistance; if the thought of getting baptized is already there it’s because your heart needs it. God speaks to us in different ways. If you’ve had the thought of getting Baptized it is because God is personally pursuing you.

**Story Team:** **What made you take the step of baptism?**

**Natalia:** For this, I have a simple answer and it is just the incredible love of God! God has shown me in many ways that He loves me, that I am His daughter and that I am not alone. He taught me with facts in my life that if I give Him the control He can do amazing things. He cured my heart of sadness and emptiness and He used me to save someone I love from the darkness. God forgave me and taught me to forgive, to love, and to be who I am. He has transformed my life completely so in an act of gratitude, love, and obedience I promised to Him I will demonstrate my faith in this way through Baptism. He is my holy father and I love Him. I trust Him and I boldly proclaim that He has all the control in my life.

Natalia Talks Baptism!

The middle school experience is hard. And so we started VIBE as a weekly program to provide kids with a refuge from all the peer pressure and social media. It’s held on Thursday nights and the team constantly plans fun and engaging activities that are focused on restoring and re-energizing these students. It’s a way to start or deepen their relationship with God and to do that with friends!

But don’t take it from us. Last night we asked a few of the middle schoolers what they think of VIBE:

“I love being at VIBE because it provides a safe environment for me to talk about what’s been going on and I love seeing my friends and love how they present the Bible and church to us in a middle school friendly way!” – Loren

“I like how all of the small group leaders are really committed to doing their work and I know they work really hard to set things up. I just look forward to having fun every Thursday and learning about God! – Kaylee
